The Listening Room is proud to present “Stories & Songs: a Songwriter’s Series from Nashville.”

The night of storytelling through music will feature the music of Laurie Anne Armour, Summerlyn Powers, and Madison Grace.

Laurie Anne Armour, nicknamed LA by her friends, grew up on Hollinger’s Island, a small community just south of Mobile, Alabama. She picked up her first musical instrument when she was 10 years old, learning piano, flute, oboe and finally settling in with the guitar when she was 14. At 16, she played her first solo performance in a singing competition at her high school.

At 19, LA wrote her first song and began signing up to play at any open mic night that would let her in underage. Over the next few years, she met some of Mobile’s finest singer/songwriters and became inspired by them to pursue her dreams and explore her talents. She began booking gigs at restaurants and coffee houses while learning what styles she enjoyed playing and how her audience reacted to the music she performed, including her originals.

Her spirit for life flows through her songs in calming, melodic ballads. Her music reflects hope, love, passion, faith, sadness, and strength to overcome. She is currently working toward recording her first EP

LA is a member of the Port City Singer/Songwriter Group, a member of her church’s praise band, and she was a 2016 Nappie Award finalist for “Best Area Singer/Voice”

At only 16 years of age, Fairhope, Alabama native Summerlyn Powers has been writing and performing for nearly half of her life.  A self-proclaimed “Alabama Kinda Girl,” Summerlyn is just as comfortable in blue jeans and camouflage as she is in her favorite pink cowgirl boots. This is evident in her debut single which was released in the summer of 2013 entitled “Alabama Kind of Girl,” which is also the subject of a video featuring the legendary country music star Pam Tillis.

Summerlyn may be young but her voice has the maturity and depth that pair well with her artistic songwriting abilities.
Summerlyn has been featured on numerous Texaco Country Showdown events, opened for the Robertson Family of Duck Dynasty, performed at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Cafe and entertained thousands of people across the Southeast.
Summerlyn’s E.P. RISE & SHINE on Dixie Dust Records was released in 2014, and she is currently working on her next project to be released later this year!

Madison Grace grew up in Lower Alabama where the warm breezes of Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico influenced many of her songs. Madison plays the piano and has written 25 songs, her first at age 14. She has recently released her debut album, Equilibrium of Contradiction, consisting of ten original tracks. Musical influences for many of her songs include Lana del Rey, Gavin DeGraw, and Coldplay.
